The US Department of Education recognizes 6 distinct educational regions, each of which is overseen by a different accrediting body. The Middle States Region is made up of the 5 states of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania, plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
